(48) UR Shinkawa Shimayashiki Dori UR新川・島屋敷通り

The land this danchi in Mitaka was built on is a small island of high-ish land surrounded by low-lying land that was used for farming until the post-war period. You can see that the outline of the danchi clearly maps to the outline of the former farmland.

The original danchi buildings, which date back to the around the 1960s, were replaced sometime in the 1990s or 2000s. Today complex is a mix of mostly mid-rise and high-rise buildings. It’s not the traditional rectangular box danchi vibe.
